Wisconsin’s DPI reporting deadlines don’t pause for staffing changes. When Jefferson’s data lead had to step away one summer, Andrea, back then an elementary-school administrative assistant with no special education background, was asked to take over, and she inherited a setup that hadn’t been well maintained.

1. Scaling without strain
Documented service volume grew from about 5,100 billed lines in 2020–21 to a peak near 8,600 in 2023–24, absorbed by the same lean team because the workflow scaled with it. Andrea now spends very little time correcting data.
2. Clean claims, calm audits
In 2024–25, out of roughly 7,500 service lines that were billed, about 98% were paid. Only fewer than 1% were rejected. This is the kind of well-documented claiming that holds up under review.
