Why the Best Product Roadmaps Don’t Start Inside the Company
Nobody asked us to build that, but we did because it was necessary.
About the series: The Simplicity Papers are short essays from Go Solutions on what it takes to make complicated work feel simple. Written for the educators, therapists, and administrators who do that work every day. No product announcements, no sales pitches — just what we’re learning from the districts we serve.
A few weeks ago, we gathered district leaders from across the country for one of our customer roundtables. If you’ve never attended one, you might imagine a room full of PowerPoint presentations, product demonstrations, and polished roadmaps.
It wasn’t any of those things. There wasn’t a photographer. There wasn’t a videographer. There wasn’t a marketing team capturing every conversation for social media. There wasn’t even a product presentation.
That wasn’t the purpose. The purpose was to listen.
For hours, educators, therapists, Medicaid coordinators, special educationSpecial Education Instruction designed to meet the unique needs of a student with a disability, provided at no cost to parents, including specially designed instruction and related services. directors, and district leaders shared what their work actually looks like. Not what they wished it looked like. Not what software brochures promise.
The real work.
They challenged us.
They challenged each other.
They challenged our assumptions.
When the day ended, we didn’t walk away with marketing content. We walked away with homework. That’s exactly how we wanted it.
Observation Before Optimization
One phrase has quietly shaped the way we build products at Go Solutions for years: “Observe before you optimize.”
The first problem someone describes is rarely the real problem. If we only build what was requested, we solve symptoms. If we understand why the request exists, we solve the problem.
Listening Is a Competitive Advantage
Our roadmap doesn’t begin in a conference room. It begins in conversations. The best ideas start with educators telling us where the work is hardest.
Simplicity Is Earned
Simplicity isn’t something you design on a whiteboard. It’s something you earn by understanding complexity well enough to remove it. Our goal isn’t more software. Our goal is less work.
That’s why we’re continuing our Simplicity Is Now Listening Sessions across the country. These aren’t sales events. They’re conversations. Tell us what’s slowing you down. Tell us what the future should look like. Because the next great idea may not come from Go Solutions.
It may come from you.
An Invitation
The best partnerships don’t begin with software. They begin with listening. Join one of our upcoming Simplicity Is Now Listening Sessions.
Come challenge our assumptions. Come help us build what comes next. Because our best ideas have never belonged to us alone. And we hope they never do.
