As of October 1, 2021, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) has implemented a State Plan Amendment, approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), allowing school districts to bill Medicaid for health services provided to all Medicaid-enrolled students, not just those with an IEP. This initiative, known as “Open Care” or “Free Care,” includes students with 504 plans, RTI plans, or chronic illness plans, making them eligible for billing. Additionally, districts can receive reimbursements for hearing and vision screenings, as well as nursing services provided to these students.
To take full advantage of Open Care, it’s crucial that your district’s care plans are compliant and eligible for Medicaid billing. Go Solutions has been working closely with school districts across AZ to ensure they meet these requirements and maximize their reimbursements.
